C ontinuing from Delhi trip,
went to Amritsar, wahe guru (praise the lord) with my brother
quick trip to very warm wagah border
evenings with my gal and her family
and then back to mumbai after a week

Could not wait to come back
purely because of heat in Delhi
even in the eve's it was f***ing 39 C

mumbai was same
crowded, system in chaos, lingering life, usual rut
gmat studies have gathered momentum
more pace and sturdy effort is imperative

usual chatting with my fiancee over the phone
but, its tiring me out, the frequent tiffs, the miscommunication
the courtship has to be endured albeit its f***ingly long

but the best part
my brothers gift to me
a scratch over "one of the 50 things before i die"
he gave me an ipod
he used it in his agonizing long commute
but thought of my long commute and gifted me

Been awhile since I blogged
Plenty to log

Marriage on cards for yours truly
Swept by a fab gal
and me turning silly

Went to goa for few days
but my heart was obviously in Delhi
ate, drank, walked and lazed heartily on the beaches and the pool
Had a good time but

Night and the chat with her is what i cherish in a day

Then the trip to bangalore
weather is fine but mosquitoes, bad roads, traffic jams, pollution and too much crowd

But then friends folks warmth was all the reason
and now I am a fan of chennai and its people (well friends folks atleast)

Then to jaipur at another friends wedding
extreme heat conditions in north of india tackled easily
but with affluence

And now in Delhi!

10th December is the date of our marriage
Am a blessed one indeed
and somebody up there likes me

Went to Delhi in the first week
my brother's b'day
whale of time with family
and his wonderful friends

Sister and brother (who became CA's)
made me proud
Sister - will work in Bangalore in the Biggest I Bank of the world
and brother breezed through a Big Four CA firm in Delhi

Work was good too, did a good job (I think) and worked hard at it
Felt content for a bit, felt a bit that I do have the potential as well

Met another gal, oh well now she is fantabulous!

I just turned 28 and instead of recalling another year passed by I analysed of what I am becoming and may become. I am really not in the mood to be philosophical and I prefer to keep my thoughts and battles to myself instead of spilling them out here

The analytical moment was neverthless good.

But yeah, in crux, I would definitely not want to be a typical consumer, i.e wake up, go to office, eat, drink, be merry, earn, pay taxes and consume lots of things. Well upshot is thats what I do, with the endeavour to keep on improve as a better human being. For that is to me - duty towards family, country and humanity. Deep down thats how I feel. But it takes courage to sacrifice and do what you should do. I hope this year I do more meaningful things for which I feel pride within

Besides family and folks, good old friends did greet me and so did friends in office, so that does mean I am not that bad after all! Its been good and I am blessed to have a great family and good bunch of friends

Rest all has been same, friends ribbed me of getting old and to find a girl. Office friends were same, pumping me up and cajoling me (two female friends) to be more upfront with the girls in office. All I would say, I would I would, let me feel a drive within !

On a lighter note, this saturday afternoon I was watching the movie Dil Chahta Hai, well i do like the movie, the cable and internet was not working and I did not feel like reading the book so the movie came in handy. My roomie had his precious afternoon nap spoilt from the voice from my room and he came bashing in "Even if you watch this movie 50 times you won't fall in love!" Hmmmmm, I have surprisingly turned mellow and would have blasted him if I was in Delhi, how I no longer have that short fuse I had there!
Living on your own teaches you things.

In the end, I would request my tarrot reader to refund my Rs 100. She said I would get married soon and would get a strong proposal in September. Alright, two days left still, I dont see a miracle happening! What the crap!

Back - Mumbai, home?

Home I dare say? Well when most of the mumbaikars will not accept me (as if I care), I do remind them Mumbai is in India and its not the other way around as they think it to be. I surely was missing Mumbai, well actually my office when I was in Delhi. Reason being I simply had nothing to do there! and it was damn damn hot there!!

I got a real cool watch - Sophie Martin Paris brand from my younger brother. What a class my bro is! Thanks again bro, hopefully I will give you something cool too in the future

Rest is same ole crap man, work and water... I mean rains in Mumbai. GOD I know India needs monsoon, but this long in Mumbai?? I am not sure. It was interesting to see the capitulation in New Orleans, hmmm and it was USA!!!

Finally saw Aussies getting beaten by England - Ashes. God, even my cousins in UK are also happy (not one of them can tell you what is a LBW though, mind you)

Saw the movie - Salaam Namaste, 6/10 - average movie i should say

Nothing much new except the same, me having good time generally in office

Oh and I forgot to tell you guys, I am tracking the stock exchange and scripts finally. I guess it was bound to happen with my friends circle of maarwaaris and gujjus, not to mention I am in the punter city - Mumbai!

In Delhi

Yeah, I am in Delhi with my parents. It was refreshing to commute in my dad or my cousin's car on the wide Delhi roads. The markets also seem less crowded, well you could say that after visiting Mumbai. Weather is very hot and humid bit like Mumbai.

On marriage front crap its same as before, square one. I got a rejection at last! So I guess there are smart girls afterall, chuckles. It sure is a good way to say "Sorry, our horoscope does not match", yeah right.

I did like my dad and my uncle's encouragement for me to live in Mumbai and they said this is not your age to look for comforts, etc its the age of your hard work so keep up the good work. My trip to delhi is thus accomplished

Rest the same ole, more milestones to achieve and am glad this marriage thing is going slow. SO much to learn so much to experience and live

Lazy as usual in blogging

Yeah, I know I have not posted regularly. Pardon me

Not much happening to account for really except for the Mumbai rains creating havoc, endless time it took to commute to reach the office after the havoc and things have improved but not completely

If I could recall some important highlights affecting yours truly since my last post here would they be:

- Mumbai rains. Exhausted after work since it took 2 hours to reach office and 2 hours more to return. This is what happens if trains do not work in Mumbai
- Got ill and missed office for like 3 days straight in July - had intestine infection. Cause - eating in the finest restaurants of Mumbai including the five star ITC and Spaghetti kitchen - Phoenix Mills
- Lighter note: Saw a tarrot reader. I asked her if I would go to London for further studies, esp LBS like. Her reading of cards said - I will get married very soon and that too in Sep! Whoa! Won't go abroad for further studies and growth in my line of work. Whoa! not another job change I hope, hopefully will get a good review and she meant that progress. Learning a lot here actually
- Internal introspection and realised a bit more of priorities, etc. Usual crap thinking you know. How I wish I was a junkie rock star!
- Some good satisfying assignments at job and me doing good ( I think)
- Feeling more confident of myself at work and at life. Well living on your own definitely teaches you things, oh well I never lacked that anyhow (When you live under illusions you are bound to remain so, laughs!)

So you see I have probably repeated what I have said in earlier blogs.

Back to square one

It's back to square one on marriage proposal things. I just did not hear from within for either of them and so I said no. God knows what they saw in me coz they said YES!. I am giving them better life anyhow, since you guys know more about me, i am craaaazy!

Rest of things look good, now how can I say this but things do seem to be falling in places like me focusing on my work, me having the vision of what to do next (hang on, really ? oh well at this point of time!), health keeping good, taking it easy on marriage front, etc

Having lots of fun lately, saw lots of movies as usual. Sarkar is a must see - Powerful stuff, Abhishek career will reach a new high

Rest all is same, office politics (4 gals in one team and myself!) Great challenge. Work is good for now, touchwood. Gaining confidence with each day, lets hope for the best

Spending a lot of quality time with myself. Lovely monsoons here in Mumbai and behind my house, the hills look gorgeous as ever. I have not seen so much rain in my life. Thane rocks!

Getting fast

The past fortnight has been eventful for me. Well for starters I was told that I am indeed an eligible bachelor ! That is with the marriage proposals coming to my family. So this time I gave it a try i.e listened to my folks and did what they asked me to. Well I went to a family for lunch, (the gals brother came to interview me, i guess it was the HR round ! and after I cleared that, the next round came in which was meeting gals folks and herself.

There was no interaction with the gal and frankly I am too shy to go to a family's house for stuff like that. THe end result was some hours spent there, good food taken, good family, gal was nice too, hell i dont find anything wrong with a person unless i interact !!

I cleared this round too and told my folks about the gal. I told them for more interaction, etc

That was that, not sure where it will progress

Next week out of blue while i was engrossed in work, my uncle's email came as a request (though it was more of an order !) to meet a gal coming from delhi for an interview here

This time there was indeed lots of interaction and i give credit to the gal and she felt the same that there should be lots of interaction before one can decide. Alas ! we agreed on this !

I told her the usual crap about myself, basically that i am moody / crappy / have too many ideas in life / ambition crap / etc etc. She did say she will discuss with her mom and let me know

Regarding work, well I am just focussing more on work and its not that easy to work with 4 gals and you the only guy ! I am afraid to say all 4 have egos, particularly when I was given their stuff for correction. On hindsight, my experience is more than any of them, even if you disregard my CA qualification, but i aint going to instill my opinion on them. So focus focus, cool and calm is a key word for me! But the signs are appearing and I sense easy resentment, thats ok, I thrive on challenges and have a long way to go

Went to shirdi this weekend, and on my own, I cant help it if i am more enthusiastic with travelling than my friends, i really dont want to sit at home during weekends! So I intend to see more of LIFE !!!

Saw the movie Mr and Mrs Smith (BORING) is the verdict
Parineeta - well crafted with over dramatic ending - good songs though

The journey to shirdi was good as i was forced to think on certain things (that is spend time with yourself !) while you are sitting in a bus. Faced very large crowd at the place and it was way too hot for my liking

Oh gosh i pray rain, it sure is damn hot in Mumbai !!

There are other things brewing, basically me getting more confident of myself and not overconfident, things do look promising. Hey I have come long way, gimme credit

Update / travel

Oh well I have received enough complaints of my friends to update my blog more regularly so here i go boring them again

Travelling front has been quiet, hell i already travel quiet a bit to the office, don't I ? Takes the elevator from the 4th floor to the ground floor. Walks like 500 m to the shared auto / bus stand. Takes 15-20 mins to the station. Another 50 m of walk to the train or over the bridge or something. 40 mins of travel time in train, probably covers 25-30 kms distance

Again, a KM walk to the office, climbing the bridge , descending to the western side from my central side (dont ask what it means, only a mumbaikar could figure that out, central line of railways / western side of railways !)

Oh not to forget, good cup or should i say a small glass of tea on the roadside by the teavendor

The depart is the same, though my colleague whom i am grateful drops me at Dadar from where i catch the train again, from her car it would be a KM walk again ~

See i did tell you i commute alot already !

Just to give an insight of one of my four female colleagues (god save me !), this one is born and brought up in mumbai, is a tamil brahmin like two of my good friends and was telling me further classification of brahmins in TN, like aiyar / iyengaar - further in aiyar - verma or something

Hell i have no idea which classification do i come in !

Hello folks, no I am not going to bore you with my settling in Mumbai sagas this time, instead lets learn more about music, m&a's, sport, etc

Well for starters, i am a fan of the bbc sites, essential music lover would appreciate bbc.co.uk/music - has radio, documentaries, reviews, artist profiles / bio's, etc etc - mother of all music sites in a way, covering each genre. Their radio shows are not to miss be it you are a beethoven - ray charles - u2 - britney fan

Again going to business sites, bbc business site covers news a lot lot better than other sites, and believe me, i do tons of reading at job too, well part of my research job and i dont mind as always been hungry for knowledge and stories ! Ofcourse, economist is awesome, wsj.com and ft.com are not behind but they require subscription

Sport site - oh well, i have my homepage set to bbc.co.uk/sport, now what more can i say ?

I have been quieter recently, not many mumbai trips as its been quiet hot and i feel like chilling at home at weekends, evenings are spent in and around thane with my roomie

Recent movies: Hitch - coming from me, its a very good movie. Will smith was awesome and so was the latin gal, nice butt ofcourse she has !

Sin City - different genre, based on a comic of the same name, pretty gruesome / violent and lot graphic in nature, if you are looking for entertainment you should skip it, unless you are a movie buff like me, who just likes some movies because they are well made or some other crap

Lost in translation - Ok it beats me while oscars went so gaga over it, simple slow movie, nothing special - thats my review

Million Dollar Baby - Well not sure why it did get the best movie award at this years oscars - ofcourse Hillary Swank was awesome again (I thought she was brilliant in Boys dont cry) - the movie was very well made, clint eastwood has his own style, slow paced and you can make out he has made a movie in a relaxed manner, good attention to characters, different story script lines, in fact a good one to mention. For me though if the movie lets say 'moves me' now thats a great movie so i wont say it should have been the best of the last year. I think Aviator was way ahead of it, but anyway i am not an academy member

Jo Bole So Nihaal - besides the sardar jokes, the hot gal sunny deol had, few humorous moments, the movie is an absolute stretch. Serial killer / bomber who cant live without confessing on a sunday and killing the priest the same day ! Oh the more i mention it the more good crap will come out, avoid it folks, but the gal was mmm Yummy to say the least

Music: Not sure how many folks follow indie rock style well thats what i prefer and been doing that since a long time now, dont know somehow got into it from my college days. Try listening to Feeder - Loosing a moment, spiffy band
Doves - Last broadcast(the album) , black and white town, satellites

Settling

I am finally feeling more settled now in Mumbai. After coming and then again starting afresh in a new job, the commute and other struggles seemed more magnified

But now, I am trying to mould myself and revel in the system i.e I leave early for office and catch the train when crowd is less, that leaves the wagon airy for me that i don't feel suffocated since there are not many ppl around you.

Next is how to utilise the travel time, well, pops out the good newspaper called 'Business Standard' and its me reading the paper while standing, one hand holding the paper other the hangar on the celing for support. The newspaper is good and I reach office

Office and work is good.

Food problem is resolving and my health is turning better ( I was sick with sore throat, cold and fever like 2-3 weeks straight !) Never been ill so much if i could remember

By the way, the movie Hitch is really enjoyable, well I like will smith, so it is recommended from me

Its time to concentrate on my vision for gmaat and lets hope for the best

Delhi and back

After my initial struggle with work and commutation am beginning to settle down. For starters I realised how 15 minutes early make a difference in life ! Simply said, I catch a train 15 minutes earlier than i used to last week and the crowd is less, though I have to stand for 40 mins straight, I dont mind that as long as it is not jam packed.

Also got used to the queue systems for a shared taxi / auto and I am glad it is existing in Mumbai else it will be like HELL !

I was feeling homesick strangely after 4.5 months in mumbai (i have to give credit to myself, considering i lived away on my own for the first time in life) I found Delhi deserted !! Well looking at people people everywhere in mumbai, delhi seemed deserted

Home food was stupendous, parents as good as ever and happy for me, friends were cool and thus it was lot fun !

During the past month I have been galvinating around Mumbai with my roomie, Nitin with whom now i share a good rappo ! Some places we have seen are (even mumbaikars have not seen places who have been born here):

Versova beach (a shady small beach which gets dark after sunset- perfect for couples cuddling and smooching and etc since there is no lamp post to shine among the shameless)

Gorai beach (good long beach, one of the cleanest in mumbai, has lots of cottages around where you could rent out rooms and do stuff...ahem you know what i mean, its a good place for couples again)

Bandra Bandstand (liked the waves splattering against the rocks, but it is the most shameless beach in mumbai, heaven for couples, not sure what shiv sena is doing when in their own home mumbai is like this)

Ghatkopar (dominated by gujju's, nice babes, i think i find gujju babes attractive somehow, my roomie loved this place, since he adores paani puris and roadside stuff which are plenty available in ghatkopar)

Thane is wonderful, my home, green, big roads, religious, conservative (not many gorgeous babes here i am afraid). It was wonderful to see candle lights , diyas lit around the boundary wall of lake in the evening of gudi padwa (New year for marathis)

Work has been progressing, basic research stuff, am learning it , hopefully doing good

Food still remains a problem, hopefully the problem will be resolved soon

Well I never expected to this happen and thats the beauty of life. New job new struggles but I realise things only toughen you up. The new job is me in a research job. That is basic research stuff for Corporate Finance / Business Advisory Services and Transaction Processing Services.

I am a professional so I can't help but being sincere to any job / work. Its definitely different for me as I have had exposure for number crunching more than anything else

What I am slightly struggling at is the commuting. I wake up early now around 6:30 well my eyes open after shutting of the alarm at that time by 7:00. I get ready, prepare some cheese toasts for myself and go for the station by 8:15-8:30. Eventually I will have to leave early since at that time train is less full, and more comfy.

The time I catch the train, there is no place to sit since shrewd folks from Mulund catch the train while it is coming from CST (Shivaji terminal or VT). They settle down with their newspapers and the train comes to Thane which is the last stop coming from CST. The train is also the first stop while going to CST but Mulund folks already have the seats ! Anyhow, its 45 minutes of standing for me in a crowded first class and I reach Parel. I cross the bridge and go to the Elphiston road side. Stand in a queue for a shared taxi to my office. Not to mention I catch a shared auto to the Thane station from my place.

So total commuting time is 1-1.5 hrs max one way. While coming back, only if the train is after 9:30 pm there is lesss crowd and i get a place to sit with less heat. I stand in a queue once again to catch the bus to my place (takes another 15-30 mins)

Yeah I do sound commuting is takign a toll of me, but thinking i have a nice pad here in thane, a hillside view, am settled a bit here, rent is dirt cheap, so taking these factors i am not keen to shift to mumbai. But lets see, as you know life is beautiful for some, so you never know

Its been a real education to live on your own. I miss the home food, the comforts and am feelign home sick now. I think it is but natural, i left home for the first time and its like 5 months away for me. I am leaving to delhi for 4 days the coming thursday

On work fronts, i have the confidence in myself so no worries there

I don't know whether it was Gormand's shirdi visit footsteps or what a very good fortune has occured to me. It being I was interviewed on this Tuesday by one of the big fours (one of the big four jobs I have been craving for) and received an offer today. I have resigned from my present company and this has been the shortest stint for me, though I have switched jobs embarrasingly frequently. Startups are startups, BPO's are BPO's and a job is a job i realise.

Its been a mini dream come true for me, though I realise deep down no work or organisation is small. I sincerely hope the road now which I will take is a long lasting one with the journey being fulfilling

Gormand's visit

I received a phone call at a ghostly 5 am sunday morning 20 Feb '05, from Gormand saying I am standing at this place. It was fortunate that I had not had the binge on sat night so though being half asleep I went and received him. It had been ages since I had woken up this time and so the early morning was refreshing and pleasant.

Gormand's fondness for visiting shirdi while alone was admirable. But I would definitely like to wake him up at 5 am also. We slept while the world was waking up for five hours. Had lunch and then were swindled by a Thane autorickshaw for a trip to a meek hilly place called Yeoor (near Thane). Two autos charged us Rs. 200 for fours of us, not to mention the animated convo he had with us while driving to the place. He mentioned the auto would be in a vertical 90 degree position with the steep climb and if four of us used it, the auto will overturn. I hate to mention that we realised we could have taken the bus instead with a fare of Rs 10 for each. If I would meet the pot bellied auto driver again I will mug the swindler for sure !

Rest of the day was good with Gormand and myself taking long long walk to chowpatti and back, weather was complimentary to our spirits so it was really nice

No I am not referring to the academic professionals but of an alcoholic drink. I especially am fond of it and had it twice in one week which is like more frequent for me since I prefer the binge just on the friday night after work. Twice in one week was because of office gatherings and I am not responsible for my indulgence (a hint of things may come with the preceding sentence)

Teachers brand does flow smooth and it is best 'on the rocks' i.e with lots of ice. On other fronts, life was hectic again with working hours stretching to 14-16 hours, sleep depravity and illness with tonsils flaring up. But I congratulated myself with 'teachers' and marched on with or without flying colours

Living alone is a lesson itself but I should not mention it more coming from a pampered child who is not doing bad financially. " There are more troubles in the world than yours and mine "
I am beginning to fall in love with the Thane, some of the simple folks here are especially helpful and simple, which is refreshing for a city boy like me. And the place is bit laidback than Mumbai and I am getting used to it. But not sure how long will this romance last as I do believe life is a journey and not destination and you move on from most of the things in life

Da Vinci Code

With no girl in my life or should I say not anyone to bother me much (It's a different matter I bother lots of people) I had not much to do on a saturday evening. So what do I do ? Off I went with another fella to the nearest cinema. This time the movie was ' National Treasure' featuring Nicolas Cage. It was the usual Walt Disney family wholesome movie. With lots of clues leading to a puzzle. It was almost getting itchy with so many clues i.e one clue leading to another clue and so an and so forth

My accomplice suggested me to read Da Vinci code, I have heard of it somewhere but did not pay notice. The book has been selling like hot cakes and my friend suggested me its a thriller. Next day I find out a movie featuring Tom Hanks on it is going to be shot soon in France !

I hope I read the book meantime, but meanwhile so much else to do in life than to read this book. THere is TV, there is pc games, there is music, there is travelling, there is sleeping, there is work. Hell the last one never stops. My struggle for finding a 9 to 5 job goes on but I know its really not in my destiny !

By the way Praveen Babi died living in a sea facing flat. Tragic life, dyin all alone, but then thats how it happens, you live as you dream, alone

Well I have been doing some research on MBA, CFA. I am sure there are other courses which kindle interest. I see myself as building another objective to achieve now. Last time I had this feeling was while doing CA, the self motivation required to study was good while you realised the world is moving on (especially your MBA and engineering friends) and you face the uncertainity if you have passed the examinations of CA or not !

So off I surf in the realms of Business Schools all over the world. And coming to think of it, I thought just being CA was enough !! Jeesh how wrong I was or maybe I am in the current thinking process. But, a man gotta do as he gotta do

I did travel more than I usually do this weekend. It's fine to travel but to travel in the Mumbai locals is a different matter. Considering the fact, Mumbai is twice as populated as Delhi and one -third in city area it is SIX times densely populated than Delhi. This does explain lots of things.

The city never sleeps as we all know. I was coming back at 5:00 AM from Kurla to Thane, and the vendors were just about to set their stalls in, just about explaining that for some its business and work even at that hour. Considering it was a sunday morning, the train was not empty.
Still the trains and the rush in the locals leave lot lot more to desire. You go to Dadar station and all you see is the clatter of heels on the floor at a quick pace. A Mumbaikar friend said to me, " You talk about 'fast life' in Mumbai than anywhere in India ? Well go and try standing in the Dadar station for a minute ! Thats fast life for you".

I still prefer Mumbai commuting in relation to dodging Delhi traffic by car, since it does not take much of energy to travel in commuting by train (ofcourse if it is not one leg space for you in the train or you are not suffocated to death !)

MTNL launched broadband, but that too is expensive as downloading data will be charged for Rs 2 per MB (once you exceed 500 MB's ) (Ref: 256 kbps for Rs 500 per month - 500 MB data download)

Review of Elaan - Errr money waste ! (I don't dislike movies often but this one bored me to death !) Even Lara dutta's dance sequences in two songs (she looks good as usual by the way) could not interest me. So AVOID AVOID the movie

Sort a time pass movie. Maybe a lift off from a Hollywood thriller (which may be an obscure movie after all). Rampal was good though. Amish Patel if was paid her complete signing amount must have had a good one, since she had no role to play and it was like working in a BPO and passing time daily by surfing the net; Zayed Khan was ham !

Next movie review would be Rog, must admit, it has some nice posters of the South African babe!

Swades

One question does bug me now and then, the movie Swades theme. It is so true that younger generation here well yours truly included have a wish to go to the West residing in the corner, centre, wherever of the heart !

But then you do realize what for ? I mean, you are living comfortably already here, ofcourse the roads could be better, the water, the food, the security and safety, the MONEY, the ambience and in general the living life. I guess these maybe some of the ruling factors to decide. There are probably tons of more factors for and against living abroad.

I guess to each his own, best is to be informed and decide!

As for the movie, Swades - good music, Shahrukh for once spoke lot less and acted lot more which was good, actress was of course MMMM

Sensex

The sensex saw good rise over the last month. Infact it has reached a historical point. But, now it seems on a downslide to me. Though I have no investment in equities yet sensex shit is a good convo passing time !

One guy has made money - the "Sage of Omaha" having the Long term investment policies (probably vault locking long term investing) . I bet there are zillions of impersonators of Warren Buffett.

Another interesting thing would be derivatives and hedge funds trading - trading for the points on index is part of it. Well, I do think sensex will slide down to 6,000 points in a month and by the end of the year it will be 5,000 points. Though my money is where it should be in my POCKET

Well I have been lazy, frankly I have not had my own pc and it will be here this week. Internet may take another, so my blogging will remain same during this time, i.e I may blog quiet less

The havoc and misery caused by Tsunami has been shocking, I was terrified as my younger bro works in Indonesia, and he did not communicate back atleast a day after the massive earthquake. Thankfully he is safe and sound. But I see sadness looming in our parts of the world. Reminds me of one line - What may take years to build is destroyed overnight. BUILD ANYWAY.

Yeah, anyway is what we should do. Nature is the prevailing force anyhow.

On brighter notes, one of my friends wanted the chick status in Thane, especially my office.

Unfortunately it is not good. I have to admit it has never been good anywhere for me even in Delhi ! I come to realise it may be my luck plus the finance profession ! But then surely some lovelies are in finance !

The closest happening place to my residence is the R Mall which is in Mulund (Mumbai) The crowd is better than Thane folks. The girls ofcourse are not that pretty as in Delhi but they are okish than Thane. Thane seems a village, conservative to the core !

Interesting I read two good books - Liars Poker (Micheal Lewis) and How Geniuses Fail (Rise and fall of Long term Capital Management) It does cover facets of investment banking and are good reads. I for one am more keen on joining an I Bank with the motive to earn money! Well atleast thats what the books portray, I Banks are in for one thing only - MONEY MONEY (Any means !)

But you would say, how surprising ! Well I agree, I am just reming you, that's all

I went to Lonavala for a day with office - not a bad place to visit. I do realise i should travel a lot lot more. 2005 has a resolution for that ! A good observation on going to that place would be lots of "Chikki" shops. It seems the whole economy of town is based on "Chikki". Chikki - is a sweetner - and it is made up of sugarcane, groundnuts (crushed or raw). It is a good item to nibble upon after dinner !

Mumbai visitations have been less as I moved to my place, it is a two bedroom hall kitchen and it is a decent place to live in. I am settling in slowly.

Food is a big problem and i miss home food already. People already say i am getting thin, well i would like my tummy to subside and i loose weight easily anyhow. I am keeping up with fruits to keep my nutrients balanced but I will have to do much more on wholesome food !

Breakfast is usually idli, wada , lunch rice dal, dinner rice , vegetable, roti . Well enough of the silly blog, people blown by tsunami are not getting water !

How people like me are self - centred !

The office is spent with the research work and the management is illustrious than my preceding one. Atleast its not a lala (proprietor) company where you feel you are under scrutiny for every moment and even an iota of idle time is uncalled for ! But then things turnaround instantaneously in life and I hope this professional attitude of the work place continues to rein in.

Though it really is upto the person to be professional in walks of life !

I have the breakfast, lunch an evening snack and dinner at the canteen, plus it really is not healthy food and sometimes roomie and I go out to have something else than being served. Not much tummy aches uptill now, fingers crossed. Best is to have light food and thats it

The a/c in the office has a mind of its own and so with no adjustable temperature gadget on it, i am left freezing, some colleagues have succumbed to woolen pullovers while I manage by drinkin tea frequently (that does mean more time in the restroom)

Change seems good so far. What I miss is home food ! The morning begins with my roomie and I descending from our fourth floor situated room in the company guest house for a nice hot ginger tea just behind our office to sagar tea house ( a small tea shop with a proprietor who has a help around). Cost is Rs. 2 per glass, and we go in for two glasses each. The tea sure revs my engine for the day. Incidentally, I am shifting to a rented place this saturday barring completion of legal formalities.

The rest of the time is lumbered to get ready for the office. My roomie studies his religious book on jainism after his bath, I think its a good habit and have been infected to take in a dose of spiritual food myself. So I have commenced to read the geeta everyday after the bath before the breakfast. Those who have read it know its quality. I do recommend the Geeta by Dr S Radhakrishnan our esteemed ex President. The essays and the passages inculcated with the geeta 'shloks' (passages) our awesome !

Well I am posting from office, so its bit easy right now here, will post more on the series of changes for good hopefully

Have a roomie now, he is a Rajasthani marwari, doubly qualified as a CA + MBA, teetotaler, vegetarian and looking out to get married soon. Dude joined recently
Read two novels – “Come here Charlie and face them” and “ Strar Trek- Joy Machine”, the former was a thriller, story of a Welsh bank clerk who got bored of life in the small town that he planned to rob his own place of employment ! While Star Trek was typical. It is a welcome change to read books than look at the TV after work
Still looking for a place, and saw quiet a few places, finally zeroing on one not far from office
Have not went to Mumbai, except on the Friday, again the town, same long walk and window shopping with the roomie
Saw the movie Hulchul, the first half is a riot! Especially Arshad Warsi, second half pales in comparison and is marginally held by Paresh Rawal. In the end the movie is good and I recommend it
Few more visitations in and around Thane, have to admit Thane is more laidback and relaxed and not that professional as Mumbai maybe or Delhi is

Well folks, first week in Thane was good

Here are the brief moments:

Office was the training schedule so it was good, learnt about DCF model more for which I have been out of touch
Meals- sometimes from the office canteen, sometimes from the roadside vendor who cooked up omelette, sometimes the usual restaurants like Pizza Hut, some in the mall, etc, sometimes from the small dhaba's in the colony
Two movies already - Naanch and Aitraaz, i liked both of them, Priyanka Chopra is especially hot, and i would suggest to see her, for the other part, Ram Gopal Verma is a talent in itself and the movie Naanch was beautifully made except for the ending I disliked
Went to the Town - was an experience itself - the train journey - the long long long walk
Will now contribute to the Greenpeace movement - Rs 150 per month, well thats a start for me on my philantropic ways
Its good for now - looking for a decent place and finance a laptop + an internet connection, dont foresee any problem in those aspects

I hope earnestly i stay in this job more than in any of previous assignments

Still living in the guest house of the company, saw two movies already !
Naanch and Aitraz

Well for a single, after coming back from office when you dont have cable, computer or books and as a movie buff like me, its natural to drift to the nearest mall (15 mins walking distance by the way)

Colleages seem good, its good to be on my own and sure seems a good experience

Work is lot chillaxed - also I am in training , so no pressure, but even then not much pressure reflected or felt by other colleagues also

Well here is the big update. I apologize to my friends for keeping them unaware for the turn of events of the past month, well here it is

Interview with an investment bank, in Bangalore, I did clear the main round and received phone call from NY and London for another round, end result - not in the batch of current shortlisted candidates, apparently since I am not from the BIG FOUR Chartered Accountant firms. I am still in their contingent plan regarding recruitment
Regretfully did not get to see Bangalore as I may have liked, since the flight was like going in the morning and coming back in the evening
Office was usual, lots of late night hours and coming back early, no breathing space
Good moments were night out with friends, drinks and food, though my tummy was topsy turvy the next day. No regrets on that
Interview with WNS, another huge company, its in the pipeline, lets see what progresses
Big news, got the job offer of a decent new growing company in Thane (West Mumbai), same line of work - investment banking
So I will be leaving New Delhi after 27 years and will be close to the heart of the finance of the country, new challenges new life, i sure will miss easy life of here. Thats ok, I am looking forward to it
At my home for a week and leaving after Diwali, good things hopefully in store for me, even if not, I am not known to give up
Hindsight, thats the fourth job in three years and its been a progress in each step, lets hope I dont have to look for other options soon than my preceding assignments

Last week was eventful !

On the thursday we had a gathering in the office where each one could disclose two stressful points of the job (without giving out his name)
Some of the points were true, blunt, hardcore ! The nature of some of the literary skills exhibited by the two points - well I have to admit I do underestimate the human nature at times and keep forgetting that humans started from the stone age and have evolved into a computer age ! My mind raced throughout the thursday night, I am disconcerted of the attitude of the top management, I guess their callous nature have finally is out in the open - thats fine - its time to move on
Met an ole friend went to his house, lovely lad and nice folks he has, may god bless him with strong health and good wealth
Took a day off on the Friday, Saturday - had an academic test , for a bonus qualification , called in sick at the office and that was that
Sunday was my b'day - good to receive messages from office colleagues and an enchanting evening with my parents, uncle, aunt and two cousins - not to mention i did the shopping for myself and when the baker asked for whom to inscribe the happy birthday, i simply said, happy birthday to me - put a smile on his face , ofcourse i inscribed my real name in the end
I did some more shopping and bought a levis 501 and new pair of spectacles (both will put a stress on my next month credit card statement) but I hardly shop and i feel it was worth it
Monday was back to office, nothing special, two of my colleagues asked for the treat, well we had good nice drinks (I do like the alcohol and yep .....I wont read the evils of drinking alcohol ever - thanks cogito - i'll remember the quote) and then it was the terminal - tom hanks is good, the movie was ok, well crafted, but did not touch my chords, good movie neverthless, majority of the folks loved it
Tuesday, was supposed to be a day off but i was called in , left early and went to my office friends place for the first time, had good snacks like gol gappas , tikki, and sweet jalebis ( i am sure gormand...will have his mouth watered now ) by the evening we strolled along the colony for good five round trips, felt good to walk so much in such a long time ( i am glad i do not put on weight easily)
Wednesday, thurs, fri - lotzzz a work, good part was the forthcoming interviews on the saturday
Saturday in progress- Interviews went well, results not out yet, for more news please stay tuned for the next post in due time

Last two days have been uneventful, except for more endeavour to look for other options,

Surprised at myself already looking for a change but one has to move on and progress
Early days yet, have not heard a proposition
Had a beer on monday evening, and met my old pal who lives like a stone throw away, yet we meet like in weeks ~ thanks to friends, else life is bland
Office is not exciting as it was earlier, various issues came up, surprised of the top management attitude, sigh I got to see so much in life '
Aching to see a nice movie

Last three days have been all about collecting data on EU equity market and populating the figures to represent a database !

Did learn few more formatting shortcuts, the way people ease out of their responsibilities, politics in office, blah the usual
Almost saw the movie - Village, but the third row from the front screen disuaded my prefrence
Lots of office gossip around, yuk , already looking for other options
Its more of what you have not done or not done in time rather than good that you did it
Impatience is a virtue of a silly

The drive was breezy, I was swifter than usual with aggression bordering in my driving
Office was hectic, analysis of some mammoth companies in EU with the deadline and the TL looming over my head
Did kept my composure, well could have done better
Did not had a bite till 21:00 as of the deadline in the evening, and still questions of competence and sincerety hover around me and others
Long time no see cousin was at house when I reached at 22:00 hrs. I was pleasantly surprised she has beautiful two children and one is an official J&K citizen who is priviliged that he can buy a land in the same state (so I learnt of the Article 370/371)
The search goes on exploring myself

It was nice to walk for an hour in the park, the moon shining dim, beginning of the night
Bonus to talk to friends I chose on my cell - resolve to meet them soon, probably on the 26th of this month, birthdate
